Growing Discernment Counseling in Your Practice:

Consultation for Discernment Counseling Clinicians

Many clinicians complete Discernment Counseling training and feel aligned with the model, but then find themselves unsure how to actually grow it within their practice.

You might have it listed on your website, you might mention it when it feels relevant, but it’s not yet a consistent part of your work.

You’re not alone in that.

Over the past year and a half, I’ve intentionally focused on shifting my own practice from primarily working with individuals and couples, with some Discernment Counseling cases, to a practice where Discernment Counseling is the majority of my work. That shift came through being consistent in how I talk about this work, how I connect with other professionals, and how I show up through networking, presentations, and training. As a result, I’ve become a go-to Discernment Counseling provider in my area.

This consultation is designed to help you move from having Discernment Counseling as an option to having it as a clear, visible, and steady part of your practice.

Starts with a 50 Minute Consultation for $250 with Consultation Packages available.

What This Work Is Focused On

This is not about learning how to do Discernment Counseling.

This is about helping you build it into your practice in a way that actually works.

Creating a Clear Place for Discernment Counseling in Your Practice

We start by getting clear on how Discernment Counseling fits into your services.

Not in theory, but in a way that makes sense to the people reaching out to you and the professionals referring to you.

So it’s not something you sometimes offer, it becomes something that is clearly understood and easy to access.

Strengthening How You Talk About This Work

A big part of growing Discernment Counseling is how you communicate about it.

We focus on:

How it’s described on your website

How you respond to inquiries

How you talk about it with other professionals

The goal is for people to quickly understand what it is, who it’s for, and why they would reach out.

Building a Referral Network That Makes Sense

Discernment Counseling doesn’t grow in isolation.

We look at who is already working with couples in this space and how to build genuine, ongoing connections with those professionals.

Not in a forced or sales-driven way, but in a way that feels aligned with how you already show up.

Creating a Plan You Can Actually Follow Through On

We’ll define what you want Discernment Counseling to look like in your practice over time.

Then we break that down into manageable steps so you’re not trying to do everything at once.

This is where the work becomes practical and doable.

How It Works

-Initial Consultation, 60 minutes

We start with a 60-minute session where we look at where things currently stand and where you want to go.

We’ll identify what’s getting in the way, clarify your goals, and map out a plan that feels realistic and aligned with your practice.

-Ongoing Check-In Sessions, 30 minutes

Following the initial consultation, ongoing check-in sessions are designed to support implementation, accountability, and continued progress.

These 30-minute sessions provide space to:

Look at what you’ve implemented

Talk through what’s working and what’s not

Adjust your approach as needed

Identify clear next steps so you can keep moving forward

This work tends to be most effective with some level of consistency. One conversation can create clarity, but consistency is what leads to meaningful change.

Many clinicians choose to schedule sessions in advance so they have built-in accountability and support as they move forward.

You can think of this in a similar way to working with a trainer. One session can be helpful, but it’s the ongoing structure and accountability that lead to meaningful progress over time.

Sessions can be scheduled individually or as part of a package, depending on the level of support you’re looking for.

A More Structured, Accountable Approach

It’s easy to leave a consultation with good ideas and then get pulled back into the day-to-day of your practice.

This work is designed to support follow-through.

We’ll set a longer-term direction, break it into smaller steps, and use our check-ins to help you stay on track.

Discernment Counseling is a powerful model, and it deserves to have a clear place in your practice.

This work is about helping you build that in a way that feels sustainable, aligned, and consistent over time.

"One of the things we want but not demand, is fidelity to the model.

Courtney is humble and extremely eager to do DC the way it was designed and to keep this going strong for many years to come. I could not be more excited about her leadership in this movement to expand awareness and training in discernment counseling!" -

MEET THE HOST

Dr. Courtney Freiman

Hi! I'm Courtney, a licensed clinical psychologist, certified Discernment Counselor, and 1 or 9 Master Practitioner in Discernment Counseling worldwide. I run a group private practice in the D.C. area that works with adults and couples—and over time, discernment counseling has become the heart of what I do.

This Learn-Along group is for those of you who want more than just to check the “course completed” box. I’ll help you move from watching the videos to actually using the skills—especially the ones that feel hard or uncertain when real couples are sitting in front of you. Whether you're brand new to the model or refreshing your approach with the new training, you’ll get structure, support, and real-talk reflection along the way.

You don’t need to master this alone. Let’s walk through it together.
